Roadbook keeps every feature week and guest spot — date, state, venue, days, pay and any state tax withheld — totals them by state, and gives each state its answer: home, no income tax, a nonresident return due, no return with the reason written down, or still to decide from that state’s own instructions. It hands the preparer the year on one page.

The problem
New York taxes nonresidents on pay for work done in New York, and most states with an income tax work the same way, each with its own filing line — while the home state usually gives a credit. Nine states have no income tax on this income at all. A touring dancer who never adds the road up finds out with interest.
pay for work done in New York, and a nonresident may have to file a New York return.
New York State Tax →have no income tax on this income: AK, FL, NV, NH, SD, TN, TX, WA and WY.
state tax taken by a club is settled by filing that state’s return.
Not a reminder. Ready for the preparer refuses, with the reason named, while any booking is incomplete — a date with no state, say — or any state with income is still undecided. “No return” needs the reason written down. A state that withheld tax is pointed out. There is no override.
How it works
Date, state, venue and city, days, pay, state tax withheld, and whether it was paid on a W-2, a 1099 or in cash.
From its own nonresident instructions: file a return, use a dollar line, or no return with the reason.
The resident return and every nonresident return, with source income, withholding and notes.
What it will never do
Roadbook adds up where you worked. Your preparer files the returns.
Pricing
One missed nonresident return costs more than years of it.
One performer, every state on the road.

Questions
Not always. Each state has its own line. Roadbook asks you to decide each one from its own instructions and write the reason down.
Roadbook points it out. Filing that state’s return is how the withholding is settled.
Your resident return covers everything, and usually gives a credit for tax paid to other states.
No. It is the road, added up.
The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, emailed to the address you give at checkout within two working days. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.
The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
The invented dancer lives in Oregon. New York is due, Georgia and New Jersey are undecided — New Jersey withheld $180 — Texas and Florida owe nothing, California is under her line, and one booking has no state. Roadbook shows every one.
