Effigy keeps every digital-replica clause a studio has signed and shows which of Labor Code 927’s three conditions it meets: it lets a replica replace work done in person; it does not describe the intended uses reasonably specifically; and the performer had neither a lawyer whose terms they signed nor a union agreement covering replicas. All three, and the clause cannot be enforced.

The problem
California Labor Code 927 makes a contract clause unenforceable, for any new performance fixed from January 1, 2025, when it allows a digital replica of the performer’s voice or likeness in place of work they would have done in person, does not describe the uses reasonably specifically, and the performer had neither counsel who negotiated it with signed terms nor a union agreement that covers replicas.
a digital-replica clause for a new performance from January 1, 2025 is unenforceable when it meets the listed conditions.
Cal. Labor Code →replaces in-person work, no specific description, and no counsel or union behind it.
a clause meeting all three, whatever the contract says.
Each clause shows the three conditions lit when met. A clause meeting all three is a stop. A lawyer named but nothing signed or initialed, a union whose agreement says nothing about replicas, and “consistent with the original” with no reason written are each called out. A clause with no performer is refused. Clauses are retired, never deleted.
How it works
Performer, contract and section, when signed and when the performance was fixed.
In-person replacement, a specific description, and the counsel or union with the details that make them count.
Every finding and every clause with its conditions, for counsel.
What it will never do
Effigy shows which conditions a clause meets. Whether it holds is a court’s call.

Questions
To new performances fixed from January 1, 2025. A 2024 shoot is outside the rule, and Effigy says so.
Counsel who negotiated the replica rights, with the terms in a writing the performer signed or initialed.
Only one whose agreement expressly covers digital replicas.
No. It is the register your counsel will ask for.
The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, emailed to the address you give at checkout within two working days. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.
The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
The invented studio has one clause meeting all three conditions, one leaning on “consistent with the original” with no reason, one with a lawyer named but nothing signed, a 2024 shoot outside the rule, and one with no performance date.
