Doorpost records what each door scanner reads, what it keeps and for how long, and which of the four purposes California allows covers each use. A marketing list, a customer profile, a shared banned list or a sale of the data is a stop, in plain words. Everyone on the door signs the house rule, and every deletion is logged.

The problem
California Civil Code 1798.90.1 lets a business scan a driver’s licence or ID card to verify age or that it is genuine, and for a short list of other purposes — and forbids keeping or using the information for anything else. A violation is a misdemeanor. Door scanners are sold with guest-list and marketing features on, and nobody at the door reads the settings.
the California law on swiping a licence: verify age or authenticity, and the listed purposes only.
Cal. Civil Code →retain or use the information for any other purpose — including marketing.
Cal. Civil Code →what a violation is: up to a year in county jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
A scanner used for marketing, profiling, sharing or sale is a stop. Keeping the full record needs a lawful purpose written down and a deletion period, and a deletion past its period is a stop. Anyone on the door who never signed the rule is a stop; a signature over a year old is a warning. The file says In order only when there are none.
How it works
What it reads, what it keeps and for how long, and the purpose that covers each use.
The house rule is written from the scanners as set up. Everyone who works the door signs it before their first shift and every year.
When a scanner that keeps records was cleared, and by whom. Print the file.
What it will never do
Doorpost never touches a scanner or a card. It records how yours are set up.

Questions
Only for a lawful purpose, such as a law that requires the record or preventing fraud, written down, with a deletion period. Doorpost asks for both.
Sharing scanned information with other venues is a use the law does not list. Doorpost marks it a stop.
Everyone who works the door, before their first shift and every year.
No. It is the file you wish you had kept.
The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, emailed to the address you give at checkout within two working days. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.
The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
The invented Los Angeles club’s front-door scanner sends names and birthdays to a text-message list, and its 90-day deletion is 30 days late. A new door host has not signed, and a guard signed fourteen months ago. Doorpost names every one.
